The Two Rivers Public School District wants to do more to improve itself.
Superintendent Dianne Johnson gave a presentation to the Two River City Council about their future three-year strategic plan.
The plan started with community input through a two-day community summit.
Around 70 people, including the public and local government, gathered in the high school to give input on what’s important to them and what can be done to improve the districts through vision, mission, and values.
A smaller committee then came in with a new mission and vision for the district.
Johnson read it to the council, saying, “We include, inspire, innovate, impact, we RTR and then the mission empower every individual to learn and thrive in a dynamic world by building community, championing diversity and leading for positive change.”
The district also came up with four value statements called the Raider CODE.
Two Rivers District Director of Curriculum and Instruction Kyle Korinek explained that night two of the community summit got into details of the three-year-plan.
He says there are several key performance indicators which includes increasing students in work-based learning, getting students more involved in co-curricular activities, leveraging partnerships, and maintaining staff.
He noted they include asking questions like, “How do we work with our principles? How do we work with our coaches? How do we work with our leaders in our district to be able to provide feedback to our new teachers so that they feel like they’re growing so that they want to stay in our community?”
The Two Rivers City Council asked about how long it will take to start seeing improvements.
Korinek says change is not immediate, but there have been some good changes, including a slight increase in their state report card last year from 51.3 to 51.6.
“That’s not much, but that’s the first increase in the decade,” he noted. “What we suggest is understanding that for us to get back up to 68.8, it can take some work. It’s going to take a three-year strategic plan. It’s going to take an ardent focus.”
The Two Rivers School Board will meet later this month after getting the state report card to continue to go over improvements.
