The City of Sheboygan has released another update on their recent Information technology (IT) issues.
On November 7th, city Communication Specialist Veronica Valdez released a statement advising the public of a potential issue with the city’s network.
Yesterday (November 10th), another statement alerted residents that the investigation that followed revealed the issues stemmed from a breach in their network by an unauthorized, external third party.
These hackers not only breached the city’s network but have also asked for ransom payments from Sheboygan.
In response, Sheboygan has secured its network and is working with IT experts and law enforcement to understand the scope of the incident.
City officials have said that they have not discovered evidence that any sensitive or personal information has been compromised due to unauthorized access.
If any sensitive information is compromised, the city will notify affected individuals and provide them with the necessary information and resources.
The City of Sheboygan’s statement finished by thanking employees, residents, and those assisting for their understanding and patience as they deal with the hackers.
