The attorney representing Aisha Carr, a former Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) board member facing fraud charges, seeks documents to determine whether she was unfairly targeted.
Last week, Carr’s lawyer filed a request for records related to the investigation that led to charges against her.
Prosecutors accuse Carr of lying about her residence to run for a school board seat in the wrong district and of providing false information about her income in order to collect public benefits she wasn’t entitled to.
Carr is preparing for trial on both charges, while her attorney questions the motivations behind the investigation.
The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s office is opposing the request for additional documents.
