A lawsuit has been filed against Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) for delaying the reinstating of school resource officers.
The Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty (WILL) filed the suit on behalf of a concerned MPS parent, claiming that the absence of officers compromises student safety.
MPS agreed to reintroduce at least 25 officers by January 1st, but the district has either delayed or refused to comply.
Republican lawmakers argue that MPS is violating the law. School officials, however, state that they are working on a plan to bring officers back but are uncertain about the funding.
WILL’s lawsuit requests that a judge order the district to restore the officers’ presence in schools immediately.
