The Manitowoc County community came out big to support the Alzheimer’s research.
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Manitowoc County was held Saturday at the Manitowoc/Two Rivers YMCA with a powerful showing. Jessica Leising, the Director of Marketing & Communications for the Alzheimer’s Association, reports that the local fundraiser is expected to raise more than $40,000.
She said in a news release, “These vital funds will also directly support local services in Manitowoc County and surrounding areas, including support groups, educational resources, information and referral services, care and support, advocacy efforts, and the Alzheimer’s Association’s 24/7 Helpline.”
Alzheimer’s disease remains a leading cause of death in the United States, affecting over 7 million Americans.
In Wisconsin alone, more than 110,000 individuals are living with the disease, with over 11 million family members and friends providing care.
In Manitowoc County alone, more than 2,215 individuals age 65 and older are living with dementia.
