The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) continues to be a nuisance all across Wisconsin.
DNR staff responded to a report of EAB in the Town of Meenon and collected samples that were sent to the United States Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.
Following tests, the invasive ash-killing beetle has now been confirmed in Burnett County. This means EAB has been confirmed in all 72 counties throughout the state.
While Northwest Wisconsin is the least affected, the entire southern half of the state has been hit hard by the infestation.
The insect was first introduced to the U.S. on shipping crates from China where it is a native species.
The DNR believes the EAB is expected to kill more than 99% of Wisconsin’s white, black, and green ash trees.
The DNR also states that EAB is usually spread to new areas by being transported on firewood.
Anyone concerned about the EAB is encouraged to contact a forestry professional.
