A man wielding an axe caused the closure of a highway west of Green Bay yesterday (June 20th).
WBAY-TV reports that the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office was called to an area of Highway 29 between County Road J and Highway 45 at 12:30 yesterday morning after getting a report of a man throwing a folding chair at a passing semi.
When the deputies arrived, they found a man walking with an axe, who then fled and climbed the ladder on the side of a nearby silo.
He allegedly made comments about having explosives in a truck and camper nearby, causing bomb squads from Brown and Marathon Counties to be called.
The area was closed off to traffic while deputies tried to talk the man down.
He eventually surrendered and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
The bomb squads cleared the truck and camper and had them towed away.
The scene was cleared, and traffic reopened at around 5:00 a.m.
