Some new peregrine falcon chicks have entered the world at a Wisconsin Public Service Powerplant on Wednesday (June 12th).
Peregrine parents Sheldon and an unbanded female are watching over two new chicks inside their next box at the Weston Power Plant near Rothschild after they hatched.
After a month, the Weston Power Plant chicks will officially receive their names and given identification bands.
The chicks will be named after Wisconsin Olympic athletes including “Birdie Blair” or “Hero.”
WPS and We Energies started the peregrine falcon nest box program in the early 90’s and so far, 453 peregrine falcons have been hatched, which is 20% of all peregrine falcons born in Wisconsin.
