A former Two Rivers teacher is back in jail.
Rebecca Lynne Chewning, previously known as Rebecca Kilps, was arrested on May 27th after police were informed of child abuse.
Officers were dispatched to Chewning’s ex-husband’s home after he noticed a handprint on the body of a child he shares with her.
He told police that he had picked up the child from Chewning’s home and noticed that she was shielding a portion of the child’s body from him while placing the, at the time, 4-year-old child in his car.
He saw the mark and asked the child what happened. The child said that Chewning had hit them.
The officer spoke with Chewning, who admitted to striking the child, saying she “lost her patience.”
She was arrested on a charge of Child Abuse – Intentionally Causing Harm, and had her bail set at $300 cash.
Chewning is currently on parole after it was learned she had had sex with a student while teaching at Two Rivers High School.
She was sentenced in that case to spend six months in the Manitowoc County Jail under the Huber Law, meaning she could be released from jail to go to work.
But, with less than a month left in her detention, Chewning tested positive for THC while returning to jail, resulting in her Huber privileges being revoked.
As of this morning, Chewning remains in the Manitowoc County Jail, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 11th at 1:30 p.m.
