Nine former employees of the Waupun prison, including ex-warden Randall Hepp, are facing charges related to the deaths of two inmates.
Dodge County Sheriff announced the charges, which include misconduct in office and inmate abuse.
These charges stem from two of four deaths at the prison over the past two years.
One death was ruled a homicide due to dehydration, while the other inmate died from a stroke after being left unchecked in his cell for hours.
Wisconsin lawmakers assert that these charges highlight the urgent need for reforms in the state’s prison system.
