The Manitowoc Lincoln Baseball team may have come up just short of the state tournament, but their coach says he couldn’t be more proud of his team.
We spoke with Coach Bruce Steinbecker not long after the Ships fell to Menasha 2-1 in the Sectional Championship, and he had high praise for his seniors, Noah Wech, Evan Vogt, Gavin Lettenberger, Brady Hadler, Easton Becker, Drew Remiker, and Matthew Bushman.
“Our seniors were amazing,” he said. “They played their roles really really well. They stepped up big in key spots and their leadership was unprecedented.”
Wech was also named 1st Team All FRCC as a pitcher and infielder unanimously, and Hadler was named 1st Team All-Conference as an Outfielder, and Brayden Steinbecker earned 1st team honors as a utility player and 2nd team as a pitcher.
2nd team honors were also given to Lettenberger as an infielder, while honorable mention status was given to Vogt as an outfielder, and Cade Grapentine as an infielder.
The Ships won 23 games this season, marking the second year in a row they won 20+ games.
Coach Steinbecker, the FRCC Coach of the Year, attributes that success to the players buying into the system.
“They just did things right, and I couldn’t be more proud,” he said. “I guess what I will remember is this is probab;y going to go down as one of the most balanced attack teams we have ever had at Lincoln.”
Coach Steinbecker also said he is very excited to see how these young men, specifically the seniors, turn out in adulthood.
The coach said, “I feel really good about, someday, maybe the dads they may become, or the husbands…whoever gets their hands on those six boys are going to be very lucky.”
