NAMI Manitowoc County recently gave out two $2,000 scholarships to local students looking to enter careers focused on mental health.
The PFC Morgan Daly, USMC scholarship was granted to Addison Bauknecht, a graduate of Two Rivers High School.
She tells Seehafer News that she is very honored to have received the scholarship during the Two Rivers Scholarship ceremony directly from Shanen Daly, the mother of the namesake of the award.
“I have a couple of friends that were impacted too, and I could definitely see the same amount of passion about the subject,” she explained. “You could tell that she was very grateful that someone else was carrying on that same push for mental health awareness.”
Addison plans to attend UW Eau Claire to major in Kinesiology with a minor in Psychology.
“Mostly because psychology can be applied to day-to-day life,” she noted. “Also, I will be working with patients who are going through a lot of different things. It’s nice to see those early signs within them.”
Meanwhile, the Sgt Terry Peterson, USMC scholarship was given to Nicole Braun of Valders High School.
Both scholarships are named after veterans who lost their battles with mental health conditions.
