Some farms in Manitowoc and Sheboygan counties are being awarded funds through the Wisconsin Local Food Purchase Assistance program.
According to an announcement from the program, 125 Wisconsin farmers were awarded funds ranging from $5,000 to $25,000.
The Misfits Homegrown Cooperative and Sullivan Family Farm in Manitowoc were both awarded, as was the Greenbush Growing Cooperative of Plymouth.
In Calumet County, the Local Food Purchase Assistance Program gave money to Prairie Folk Farm and Smiling Dog Orchard in Chilton.
More than 95 percent of those awarded are part of a socially disadvantaged or historically underserved community.
Of those, 55 percent are new or beginning farmers, 42 percent of the farms are woman-owned, and 38 percent are Black, Indigenous, or People of Color farmers.
