A day to get out and hike the trails is being recognized by Woodland Dunes tomorrow.
National Trails Day celebrates getting out and experiencing nature by hiking designated trails wherever you live.
Woodland Dunes Executive Director Sue Crowley says they are taking guests on four different hikes throughout the nature preserve.
The first hike will be done on Saturday at 8:30 am with Jim Knickelbein.
The nature preserver would like anyone interested to register for that hike. But after that, hikes will be led at 10:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m.
“The 10:00 and 1:00 are led by our own Nancy Nabak,” Crowley says. “A great birder who will be able to get you out there and tell you what’s going on. And then our last hike is led by another great naturalist Jule Trick, also a great birder.”
Crowley says the hikes will be for all ages.
“It’s going to be a pretty slow hike trying to observe nature as we go along and point out some of the cool plants, cool birds that we might be either seeing or hearing,” she described.
Each hike will be about an hour long going between a mile to a mile and a half depending on how much the group stops.
She also encourages everyone to wear good hiking boots because of the recent rain.
Guests will also get a free neck gator and a token if they’re over 21.
