
A fire in a commercial building in Appleton Wednesday (May 29th) is being blamed on a smoker.
According to the Appleton Fire Department, crews were dispatched to the 100 block of North Walnut Street at around 10:30 a.m. n a report of a structure fire.
The caller reported that a smoker inside the building was on fire, and crews arrived to find the flames contained to the smoker, but the smoke was filling the building.
The fire was under control within five minutes of their arrival.
While the investigators know where the fire started, they haven’t yet determined how it started.
The Department is reminding residents to always practice safe cooking techniques and to ensure all cooking appliances are clean and in proper working order.
It is also advised to never leave any appliance unattended while in use.
