The mayor of Sheboygan now has some more responsibilities.
Mayor Ryan Sorenson was elected to be the co-chair of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative during their annual general meeting in Montreal.
The Cities Initiative is a multinational coalition of local governments, led by 260 mayors and chief elected officers, working collaboratively to safeguard the economic, environmental, and social health of communities in the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River Basin.
One of the key initiatives that Mayor Sorenson has strongly advocated for is the Brandon Road Inter-Basin Project in the Water Resources Development Act of 2024.
Sorenson and other participating mayors are urging Congress to approve a 100% federal cost share for the maintenance and operations of the project.
Mayor Sorenson said of the honor, “I look forward to continuing to work closely with my colleagues on projects that will improve the lives of our Great Lakes communities on both sides of the border.”
