A power station in Sheboygan has begun the process of transitioning to natural gas.
WHBL reports that the Edgewater Generating Station, run by Alliant Energy, has been burning coal since 1931, and plans to have the transition done by 2028.
The reasoning for the changeover is both to align with Alliant’s green energy initiative, and to help keep customers from paying an estimated $60 million through 2030.
Lisa Barton, the CEO and President of Alliant Energy, said that these changes will lower the company’s carbon emissions and help ensure they will cut all reliability on coal by the end of the decade.
