A whopping thirteen track and field athletes from Manitowoc Lutheran will be making the trip to La Crosse next weekend for the state meet.
They needed to finish in the top four at the Division 3 Sectional meet to qualify, and not only did they do that, but two more school records were broken.
First, the girls 4×400 meter relay team of Stevie Brunner, Lilly Mehlhorn, Ava Stuebs, and Addie Korte finished in 4:08.6 to take down the previous record set in 2014.
Meanwhile, the boys 4×800 meter relay team of Jacob Kanzenbach, Joey Ungemach, Ryder Vogt, and Braden Revak knocked off a 25-year-old record with a time of 8:30.28.
Also qualifying for state were Bitsey Blauert in the long jump thanks to her 17-foot leap, which was good for second place, and Gabe Stuebs in the 400-meter race.
He finished 3rd yesterday with a time of 51.30 seconds.
The other four athletes making the trip are alternatives for the relay teams.
Coach Abbey Bubolz tells us that many of her athletes who didn’t qualify for state still had phenomenal meets, with many personal best times and distances set at the sectional meet.
The State Track and Field Championships will be held Friday, May 31st, and Saturday, June 1st, at UW-La Crosse. Tickets to the State Meet need to be bought online at WIAAWI.org.
