Milk production on Wisconsin farms has risen over the past 12 months.
The USDA recently released its statistics for April 2024, and cows in Wisconsin were busy.
In the Dairy State, 2.722 billion pounds of milk were produced, up 2.5% from the 2.656 billion pounds collected in April 2023.
When split between the state’s 1,272 dairy cattle, that equates to around 2,140 pounds of milk per cow.
Wisconsin is second in total milk production in the United States, behind only California, which produced 3.544 billion pounds of milk last month.
However, their production numbers remained relatively stagnant, only rising 0.2% from April 2023.
In total, the 24 states that produce milk supplied 18.341 billion pounds of milk, with Idaho being the #3 supplier with 1.4 billion pounds.
