There was a good gathering at Manitou Park in Manitowoc for the releasing of fish.
Coho Salmon were restocked in the Manitowoc River yesterday by the Wisconsin DNR.
The salmon will grow and move from the river to Lake Michigan as they get bigger.
According to the Wisconsin DNR, efforts to stock the salmon at first weren’t successful until the 1960s, and now they’re thriving in the Great Lakes.
Trucks from the DNR first went to the Lincoln Park Zoo to net and catch the fish there and then loaded them up to be moved to the river around noon.
The fish were then pumped out of the truck and fell right in the water.
Over six million trout and salmon have been reared at the pond and released so far in several lakes.
A little more than 11,000 Coho Salmon were raised at the Lincoln Park Zoo this year.
