An alderman in the City of Manitowoc is facing disqualification connected to an ongoing legal issue.
A claim was filed with the court in February, charging District 1 Alderman Brett Vanderkin with Disorderly Conduct with a Domestic Abuse enhancer.
Then, on May 14th, Vanderkin submitted a change of address to the court, which is in Plymouth.
In a post on Facebook, former Common Council President Eric Sitkiewitz stated that he asked Vanderkin if he was still living within the bounds of District 1, which is required by city law in order to represent the District.
Sitkiewitz said that Vanderkin claimed he was.
He continued, saying, “It would appear that his situation has changed when he filed an address change with the courts but neglected to inform the council and his constituents of such.”
The issue will be addressed at a Committee of the Whole meeting tonight (May 20th) just before 6:30 p.m.
