State Representative Sheila Stubbs is advocating for the Wisconsin Senate to reconsider establishing a task force focused on missing and murdered African American women and girls.
Despite a state legislative committee approving her proposal earlier this year, it ultimately did not pass.
Yesterday, Stubbs met with other Wisconsin leaders at the state house, emphasizing the urgency of this issue by pointing out that Wisconsin has the highest homicide victimization rate for Black women and girls in the nation.
The proposed task force aims to develop violence prevention strategies and provide support for law enforcement and affected families.
Senator Duey Stroebel has suggested that this initiative be led by the Wisconsin Attorney General’s office.
