With vehicle entries on the rise in Manitowoc, the Police Department is once again reminding residents of some simple tips to help them avoid becoming the next victim.
The most simple is to lock your vehicle.
In most cases, thefts from vehicles are crimes of opportunity.
The thief tries a door, and if it’s locked, they move on.
Or they will look inside to see if there is anything valuable, including the keys.
That is why Manitowoc Police Department Crime Prevention Sergeant Paul Krock also suggests taking all valuables and keys out of the car when you leave it, or at least hiding them so they are not clearly visible.
Additionally, police ask that residents who see something suspicious to report it.
Your report could answer the following questions: what is happening, where it is happening, when it happened, what made the person’s actions suspicious, and what the person, people, or vehicle looks like.
You can report a tip by calling your local police department’s non-emergency line or 911 if it is an emergency or by using the P3 Tips app, which also allows you to submit videos and photos.
