On May 18th, 2021 the Kaukauna softball team fell to Neenah 3-2 on the road.
Since then, the Galloping Ghosts have not lost a single game.
They went on a 20-game win streak to close the 2021 season with a state championship win over Sun Prairie East before going unbeaten in 2022 and 2023, taking out Sun Prairie East and Superior for back-to-back-to-back state championships.
Now, in 2024, they are looking to make it four in a row and come agonizingly close to breaking a national record.
With their 9-1 win over Oshkosh North yesterday, the Ghosts have won 102 consecutive games, leaving them just 10 short of the record set by Vandebilt Catholic in Louisiana between 1980 and 1983.
Even if the ghosts win out and claim their 5th strait championship, they will be just short of that record this season.
With two games left in the regular season, and a potential for six postseason games, the Ghosts could end the season with 110 games won in a row.
It won’t be easy, as they first need to get through a Saturday doubleheader at home before starting their postseason run next Thursday against either Bay Port of West De Pere.
