Students from Valders and Mishicot Elementary Schools have learned the importance of remaining drug free, and have graduated from the D.A.R.E. program.
The D.A.R.E. program, which stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education, was founded in 1983 and has been implemented across the country and outside of the U.S.
The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office put on the program for the 5th graders at both schools, with Deputy Cory Hartman teaching at Valders and Detective Lieutenant Oswald helping out in Mishicot.
The instructors gave lessons on the different kinds of drugs, the importance of making safe and responsible decisions, resistance strategies to peer pressure, and how to communicate effectively and confidently.
Both classes held separate graduation celebrations recently with activities like bowling, a big wheel obstacle course, and, of course, pizza.
