A six-hour standoff in Fond du Lac ended with sponge rounds and chemical munitions.
The Fond du Lac Police Department reports that officers were dispatched to the Fleet Farm on South Military Road on a report of an individual dressed in camouflage walking around the store with a law enforcement badge.
The suspect ended up fleeing the store, making his way to the roof of the International Paper building.
Officers attempted to speak with the 24-year-old man, but he was acting erratic, showing signs of severe agitation and threatening violence towards the officers.
The employees were asked to shelter in place during the standoff, which saw the use of a drone team, a Bear Cat armored rescue vehicle, K9 teams, crisis negotiators, and some mental health specialists.
After 6 hours with no resolution in sight, the SWAT team was activated.
They swarmed the roof with sponge rounds and chemical munitions while the man was armed with improvised weapons like rocks and metal rebar.
The less-than-lethal tactics were successful, and the man was safely subdued and was taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation.
No additional details, including the suspect’s name, are being released at this time.
