Reenactors are getting ready for battle later this year.
The sound of cannon fire rang out at Pinecrest Village at the Manitowoc County Historical Society as Civil War reenactors get ready for a full Civil War battle reenactment later this year.
Jim Durben, who’s been reenacting for the last 20 years, tells Seehafer News that things were going well when they were testing the cannon replica Saturday.
He explained what his artillery group would use it for.
“Like counter-battery fire,” he explained. “You can try to take out enemy artillery with it. You can use it against troops. We can turn the thing into a giant shotgun. Pretty much anything you want to shoot you can you can shoot it with it.”
Of course, during the reenactment, the artillery will be firing blanks. Durben says the reason they practice is not only to shake off the rust, but it also helps everyone remember what they’re doing while making sure they stay safe.
People can expect several cannons and infantrymen during the full battle reenactment in September.
That will be at Pinecrest Village in the field just behind the main buildings in the town.
