While eastern Wisconsin’s Congressman says he’s voted differently than the US House Speaker does sometimes, he believes he’s doing his best.
Those are 6th District Congressman Glenn Grothman’s comments on the WCUB Breakfast Club Friday (May 10th).
He and every Wisconsin Republican congressional representative voted yes to block a motion to remove Speaker Mike Johnson.
The Glenbeulah Republican continued saying that he hoped Johnson could do more to secure the US border, exclaiming, “You cannot switch speakers constantly.”
With his election as speaker, Grothman says Johnson will oversee the Republicans in the upcoming election and help negotiate the next US budget in October.
He also doesn’t want to see a repeat of what happened with the last speaker.
He stated, “We cannot afford to go through another mess like we did about nine months ago when Kevin McCarthy was kicked out of the speakership.”
“Everything came to a stop, and we can’t make Republicans look foolish again.”
11 Republicans voted in favor of ousting the speaker, which failed by a 359-43 vote earlier this week. Grothman calls Johnson a decent and moral person, and trying to kick him out as Speaker is “incredibly shortsighted.”
