The 2023 Great Lakes stocking numbers are in.
The Wisconsin DNR says they’ve raised millions of yearling and fingerling fish to stock Wisconsin waters every year.
It helps boost natural fish where natural reproduction can no longer support a fishery and is used to evaluate management actions or fish culture techniques.
In Lake Michigan, over 500,000 trout have been stocked with most being brown trout.
Over 1.8 million salmon have also been stocked, with over 1 million Chinook salmon alone.
The DNR also stocked 591 lake sturgeon, 7,681 muskies, and more than 500,000 rainbow trout.
Over 6 million fish were stocked in 2023 in Lake Michigan, Superior, and other inland waters, which helped fulfill the quotas submitted by county fisheries biologists.
