A grant for a local malt and grain company has been approved by the Manitowoc Common Council.
The federal Port Infrastructure Development Program grant will support improvements at Briess Malt and Ingredients on the city’s lakefront.
Mayor Justin Nickels explained Thursday night (May 9th) that the grant could be used to expand the company’s grain silo and add on to some property the company owns between the Manitowoc River and Lake Michigan.
The grant requires city approval, which is why the common council had a special meeting last night.
The grant got a unanimous vote.
