Shakespeare, or what should be a Shakespearian play, takes on a whole new meaning in this year’s Masquer’s Musical.
The musical called Something Rotten will be playing at the Capitol Civic Center starting tomorrow (May 9th) beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Director Lisa Heili said on WOMT’s Be My Guest program that the musical is based around the Bottom brothers who are trying to compete with a man called The Bard who puts on great plays.
They consult a man named Thomas Nostradamus who can predict the future to help them write a show, but it doesn’t go exactly as planned.
R.J. Skrepenski plays Thomas Nostradamus and says how he predicts the future changes each time.
“There’s a certain amount of changing, not from the script and not to throw any of the other actors off, but Lisa has been very kind to let me explore just how Thomas Nostradamus handles his visions and what kind of sounds and movements come out of them,” he describes. “And they very for sure.”
Skerpenski says he was ready to get back into acting and this musical has three key things that made him want to come back.
“The humor, the Broadway musical theme, and then Shakespeare, which are three of my favorite things,” he says. “And then the fact that I get to explore a little bit about how I get to handle all those things on stage.”
This is part of the end of Masquer’s 93rd season of putting on shows. It runs until Saturday, May 11th.
Tickets cost $35 for adults and $22 for Students.
