A pair of area Manitowoc County schools are participating in a solar energy event at UW-Oshkosh this afternoon.
Students from Mishicot and Valders High Schools will compete in the 28th annual Solar Olympics through Wisconsin Public Services to see whose solar energy skills shine the brightest.
150 total students from across northeast Wisconsin and north Central Wisconsin will attend to show off their solar knowledge by competing in events like a Solar Car Race, Solar Cooker race, and Solar Water Heater contest.
There are also inspired events like the Solar Art Challenge, Solar Advertising Campaign, Solar T-Shirt Design, and Solar Sculpture among others.
In true Olympic fashion, the top finishers in each event will receive gold, silver, and bronze medals.
The top three medal-winning teams will also be recognized at the end of the competition.
WPS says Solar Olympics gives high school students a fun, hands-on opportunity to demonstrate their solar knowledge.
Other schools in attendance include Chilton and Ashwaubenon High Schools.
