The former Lakeshore and Mid-Cities Mall properties on Manitowoc’s north side now officially belong to the city.
Mayor Justin Nickels made the announcement last Saturday.
He says the plan is now for the city to clean up the entire property which includes asbestos testing and demolition and removal of the former Younkers Building and the parking areas over the summer.
Afterward, the entire area will be seeded and prepped for development. Nickels reiterates he’s not sure exactly what will be developed, but plans are in the works.
He also calls the property very desirable because it’s just off Lake Michigan and connected to Two Rivers.
He finished by thanking the citizens and Manitowoc Public Utilities for their support in making this happen and calling it a great day for the city.
