A Manitowoc Lincoln High School athlete is committing to a Division 1 college for tennis.
Olivia Minikel signed her letter of intent yesterday to commit to Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.
Athletic Director Stan Dietrich explained how much Minikel did during her four-year high school career, including being a four-time conference player of the year, four-time sectional champion, and four-time state qualifier, placing 3rd at state during her senior year.
Minikel tells Seehafer News she was relieved but excited after signing her letter.
And while her accomplishments are numerous, she was excited to be a part of a team.
“Tennis is usually an individual sport so being able to play with a team and play with the girls from my school meant a lot,” she described.
She also explained why she picked Creighton over other colleges like Marquette, Bowling Green, and Northern Illinois.
“Their academics are really good,” she stated. “I really love the campus, and just like all of their resources, their facilities are really cool.”
She’s also thrilled to get the chance to play on a double team rather than as a single athlete because you can do both at the collegiate level.
She started playing tennis at age 5 when her parents signed her up for lessons at the YMCA.
While at Creighton, she’ll be studying neuroscience as her major.
