The Wisconsin Maritime Museum is set to honor the crew of the USS Lagarto this weekend.
The public is invited to the museum on Saturday, May 4th, for the annual USS Lagarto Remembrance Ceremony, which will begin at 1:00 p.m.
The Lagarto and her 86-man crew were lost on May 4th, 1945, after being attacked by the Japanese minelayer Hatsutaka in the Gulf of Thailand.
In May 2005, nearly 60 years to the day, the wreck was discovered in the Gulf of Thailand.
The Wisconsin Maritime Museum worked with professional divers to learn more about what happened to Lagarto and her crew.
The Museum also spent nearly 12 years searching for the crew’s families.
