Fundraising for a new Lakeshore Humane Society building is off to a great start.
An announcement on Facebook says local couple Roy and Darlene Geigle are donating $1.5 million to jumpstart the new project.
The current building is from the 1970s, and there is no room for renovation to meet the needs of the animals.
CEO Tina Nichols has also told Seehafer News that it would have cost as much to build a new shelter anyway, so building a new shelter makes sense.
About another $1.5 million still needs to be raised before the new building can get started.
The shelter held its first fundraising event last week and is looking to do more in the future.
