The Manitowoc Lutheran High School addition project is still on schedule.
Capitol Campaign Director Martin Plocher tells Seehafer News that the plan is to have the new gymnasium, locker room area, and extra parking ready by the 2024 basketball season.
In September last year, the school broke ground on the new gym which will include a full regulation basketball and volleyball court, plus two extra courts for tournaments.
Plocher says the idea for a new gym began in 2018, but in 2020, COVID-19, along with the passing of their Director of Advancement, put the project on hold.
But then the need arose again.
“We really had to get that momentum going again,” he explained. “We had to reengage with our stakeholders and communicate the needs of our school and what we’re able to afford.”
That’s why the project was placed on the east side of the school and scaled down to meet budget restrictions.
Although construction has been on schedule, Plocher says the school is still fundraising to meet costs.
“We’ll probably have to borrow (fundraise) around a little over $3.5 million,” he tells Seehafer News. “So, about $3.8 million to finish the project out. But that’s also going to include parking, as you see to the west side of the school. And then completely redoing our current parking lot so that it’s all consistent.”
The new addition will be a total of 30,000 square feet of new space.
