Manitowoc County will have a drop-off area for the statewide Spring Drug Take Back Day this Saturday (April 27th).
Froedtert Holy Family Memorial Hospital in Manitowoc will be the place to bring unused or expired medication to be disposed of safely and conveniently.
Director of Mission and Pastoral Care Roxanne Miner says you’ll need to empty the pills into a clear, sealed plastic bag before coming to the drive-thru event.
Collectible items include prescription and over-the-counter medications, ointments, sprays, inhalers, prescription creams, and even pet medications.
Do not bring biohazardous materials like mercury, household hazardous waste, batteries, electronics, or personal hygiene products.
Miner says last year’s prescription collection was a record.
“290 pounds of medication from about 200 hundred cars,” she tells Seehafer News. “This was an increase of 91 pounds from the year before. We’re hoping to break our record again this year.”
It’s important to not throw expired medications in the trash or flush them down the toilet because they can cause contamination to rivers and lakes.
The event is free to the public and will take place from 9 am to noon rain or shine.
