A dock will so be replaced in the Manitowoc Marina.
Mayor Justin Nickels says the city got a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service grant worth about $439,700 to replace the A Dock.
It’s part of $21 million in Boating Infrastructure Grants that other states and US Territories will be getting for reconstructing and renovating docks.
Manitowoc Marina President Rich Larsen says the replacement will enhance access for residents to Lake Michigan and increasingly attract tourists who choose the marina as their gateway to vacation and explore the community.
Nickels says the aging infrastructure was first built 40 years ago, and this project will make it so more people can come to Manitowoc and access the lake for the next 40 years.
Demolition of the dock could begin at the end of this sailing season, with construction happening over the winter and spring of 2025.
