The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers are now on a three-game win streak after they swept the back half of a six-game series with the Cedar Rapids Kernels.
The Rattlers bats exploded for 14 runs during Saturday’s game, which they won 14-8, and the defense was the bright spot Sunday in a 2-0 win.
The Rattlers scored both runs in the 1st inning, with Jadher Areinamo and Matthew Wood knocking home the runs.
Then, five pitchers combined to allow only three hits and two walks the rest of the way.
Edwin Jimenez got the start and the win, going five innings of two-hit ball while striking out four batters.
Chase Costello came on for one inning of relief, allowing zero baserunners, followed by Stiven Cruz, who allowed the only hit and walk the Kernels would get the rest of the way.
Aaron Rund and Craig Yoho would each strike out a pair in their single innings of work, with Yoho getting the save.
The win secured a 4-2 series win over the Kernels and improved the Rattlers to 10-5, good for second place in the Midwest League’s West Division, one game behind the Quad Cities River Bandits.
The Rattlers will take today off before traveling to Peoria, Illinois, for a week-long series with the Chiefs.
Patricio Aquino is expected to get the start for the Rattlers in the Tuesday series opener.
