Investigations into last summer’s swimming pier collapse at Lake Mendota in Madison have concluded that student overcrowding was the primary cause.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison released a report on Friday detailing the incident at the Howard Temin Lakeshore Path.
According to the findings, the pier, designed to accommodate a limited number of individuals, was overloaded with approximately 80 students at the time.
The excessive weight exerted a significant lateral strain, ultimately leading to the pier’s collapse.
Although around 20 students sustained injuries during the incident, none were severe.
