The man who stole a car with a woman and child in it last year at the Fox River Mall will be going to prison.
According to FOX11, 52-year-old Jay Scott was sentenced to spend 30 years behind bars and ten years on extended supervision after previously being convicted on charges of Carjacking while in Possession of a Weapon, Theft of Movable Property, and Felony Bail Jumping.
Scott was arrested in October of last year after he brandished a knife and took the victims’ keys.
He also forced the woman and her child into the car and tried to get her to get money from an ATM.
The victims were able to escape the car, and a nearby witness called 911 when they heard her screaming and saw her running from the car.
At his sentencing, Scott apologized for his actions after a victim impact statement was paraphrased by Judge Mark Schroeder.
