The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers split their series-opening doubleheader with the Cedar Rapids Kernels yesterday.
In game one, the Rattlers scattered 12 hits en route to a 5-3 win at Fox Cities Stadium.
Patricio Aquino picked up the win on the mound, allowing 5 hits and 3 runs through 5 innings of work.
In the make-up game from Tuesday, the Kernels’ bats came alive, peppering the field with 11 hits in an 8-2 win.
Tate Kuehner suffered the loss, allowing 6 hits and 3 runs through just two innings of work.
Leading the way at the plate for the Rattlers were Gregory Barrios, who went 4 for 6 on the day, and Louis Lara, who went 4 for 7 with 2 RBI.
Mike Boeve had a perfect start to the day, going 3 for 3 in game one with 1 RBI, but his bat went silent in the nightcap.
The Rattlers are now 7-4, and sit one game behind the Quad Cities River Bandits for the top spot in the Midwest League’s West Division.
The Rattlers and Kernels will be back in action today for game three of their six-game set, with Will Rudy taking the mound for the Brewers’ High-A Affiliate.
He will square off with Twins prospect John Klein.
