This week is National Work Zone Awareness Week.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, there are an average of 2,336 work zone crashes in Wisconsin each year, and over the past five years, 63 people have died, and over 4,300 were injured.
The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office is reminding drivers to slow down when entering a construction zone and to be patient.
It is suggested that drivers eliminate all distractions like eating, drinking, or talking on the phone and expect the unexpected.
Keeping a hyper-vigilant eye on your surroundings will help keep not only yourself safe but also those working on the ground.
If you are aware of a construction project in progress, you are also encouraged to find an alternate route.
