Another scam has hit our area, this time targeting members of the Latino community.
The Green Bay Police Department has been reaching out to residents to warn of an immigration scam, which has already cost residents “tens of thousands of dollars.”
The fraudsters have been calling residents, claiming to have a relationship with someone in immigration services, saying they can help speed up the immigration process.
They then ask for a cash payment or wire transfer but never deliver on their promises.
Green Bay Police Lieutenant Jena Luberda explained that scammers tend to be pushy and try to catch their targets off guard.
She also noted, “We have reason to believe that there are more victims, and we want them to feel comfortable coming forward.”
Anyone who has been the target of this or any other scam is encouraged to reach out to local law enforcement with as much information as possible.
