Recent crime data from Milwaukee indicates a notable decrease in several categories of criminal activity compared to both 2023 and 2022.
The Milwaukee Police Department released statistics covering the initial three months of this year, revealing a marked decline in murders and most other forms of violent crime.
Notably, murders have diminished by 39 percent compared to the previous year and by an even more substantial 54 percent compared to the record-breaking figures of 2022.
Police Chief Jeffrey Norman attributes this decline to broader trends observed in other urban areas.
Non-fatal shootings have decreased by approximately 27 percent since the beginning of the year, while robberies and thefts have decreased by 14 percent.
Mayor Cavalier Johnson views these figures as indicative of positive momentum for the city of Milwaukee.
