Milwaukee’s fire chief revealed that a firefighter sustained burns while attempting to rescue a 72-year-old woman trapped in her burning home.
Identified as Monica Lemke, the woman faced mobility issues that prevented her escape during the fire on Sunday.
The firefighter found himself trapped but crawled to safety through a window.
Chief Aaron Lipski reported severe burns on the firefighter’s back.
While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, neighbors noted that the initial blaze occurred in an abandoned house adjacent to Lemke’s residence.
