Kiel Firefighters rescued a resident during a house fire Monday afternoon.
The Kiel Fire Department reports that they were called to 19 East Paine Street at 12:15 p.m. on a report of an activated smoke detector and that the Manitowoc County Joint Dispatch Center received calls about smoke in the building.
Crews arrived to find smoke billowing from the home and one resident outside.
They were informed of another resident inside and quickly went in to find them. The resident was located and escorted safely outside while crews began attacking the flames.
The cause of the fire was said to be an unattended cooking appliance.
The residents are not being displaced due to the fire, and no injuries were reported.
Kiel Fire Lieutenant Kyle Preissner is using this case as an opportunity to remind everyone of the importance of having working smoke detectors and never leaving cooking appliances unattended while in use.
