A Sheboygan County farmer is getting some grant money from the Wisconsin DATCP for the Commercial Nitrogen Optimization Pilot Program.
The grants aim to help people understand the new methods to optimize commercial nitrogen applied to agricultural fields, helping to protect soil and water resources.
The Nick Kleiber Grain Farm is getting $21,800 of $800,000 to determine economical nitrogen rates on no-till corn in Sheboygan County.
Other groups around the state will also use the grant to look at how nitrogen affects cranberries, potatoes, and flowers.
21 applications were submitted, totaling about $1.9 million.
