Wisconsin Emergency Management and the National Weather Service have announced a statewide tornado drill planned for next week.
The drills will be broadcast on radio stations around the state at 1:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 11th.
NWS offices and WEM’s ReadyWisconsin campaign will also post information on social media about the drill, which is part of the annual Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week campaign.
The tornado drill will not include a live code test.
The live code test was discontinued in 2020 and is no longer part of the drill.
The alerting systems used during the Statewide Tornado Drill are regularly tested in other ways and at other times of the year.
The live code test is not necessary to ensure the readiness of the system, although many schools, businesses, and others continue to show interest in coordinating a statewide drill each spring.
Information about the status of the drill will be posted at ReadyWisconsin.wi.gov/.
